Lancer Evolution Forged Short Block
Add the last seven characters of your VIN in the order notes, or the chassis number for an imported car, and we check the part before dispatch.
Forged Short Block for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution: a short block with forged pistons and rods, new bearings, balanced rotating assembly and blueprinted clearances.
The factory internals in these engines are good to around the power they were designed for and fail predictably beyond it: ringland on the Subaru EJ, rods on the 4G63 at high boost, oil control on hard used track cars. A forged build moves that limit. It also needs running in properly, a correct calibration and oil changes at half the normal interval, and we say that before you buy rather than after. The Evolution uses active centre and yaw control differentials whose pump and fluid are the parts that fail first, long before the 4G63 does.
Specification and fitment
- Fits: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, chassis code CT9A and CZ4A
- Engine: 4G63T and 4B11T turbo
- Production dates: 2001 to 2016
- Quality: Parts Only
- Part number: cross referenced to the factory part number for your VIN or chassis number and confirmed before dispatch, because supersessions and market variations are common and one printed number would be wrong for somebody
- The failure this addresses: ringland and rod failure on engines tuned beyond their factory limits
- Labour time: about 25 hours
- Coding: a calibration is required and is included on the fitted option. Running this part without one risks the engine
- Also needed: a head gasket set, ARP studs and a running in calibration
- Torque: ARP studs to the supplied figures
- Weight: about 60 kg
- Warranty: one year on road use; track use is covered for manufacturing defects only, and we say so up front
What arrives

Fitting
Labour guide: about 25 hours. Japanese manufacturers change parts by build date and by market, and grey imports add a second layer to that. Send the VIN or chassis number with the order and we confirm the part against the build data before anything is dispatched. For imported cars send the chassis plate, because the UK registration will not tell us enough. We are an independent parts specialist for Japanese cars. We are not Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru or Mitsubishi and are not appointed by any of them; the names are their trademarks and are used here to describe fitment. We stock genuine, OEM and quality aftermarket side by side and every listing says which is which, because the price difference is real and so, sometimes, is the quality difference. Performance modifications must be declared to your insurer before you drive the car. Most specialist insurers are happy with sensible parts; an undeclared modification can void a claim entirely. We do not sell decat pipes, particulate filter deletes, EGR blanks, emulators, or crackle and pop calibrations. They are illegal on a road car in the UK, an MOT failure and they void insurance. Every performance part here keeps the emissions equipment working.
Which version to buy
Parts Only is the parts delivered to you or your garage with our fitting notes. There is one specification of this, because it is the one we would fit to our own cars and a cheaper version would not be doing you a favour.
Genuine, OEM and Quality Aftermarket are options on the same listing, so you can compare before you buy. The difference
Add the last seven characters of your VIN, or the chassis number for an imported car, in the order notes and we check the fit before dispatch.
